Dragon Killer

In the ancient times, there was a Kingdom where many  people started vanishing, never to be seen again. Slowly the rumour spread that there is a dragon in the nearby jungle who comes and carries people away. As the years passed, more and more people vanished and the fear destroyed the trade and economy of the Kingdom.

The King tried hard to send the message across that it is only due to fear that people are moving out but in reality there is not to be afraid of. But none of the public listened to the King. The belief that dragon has carried away people became so strong that even during the day time the whole Kingdom looked deserted.

The Prince then took upon himself to rid the Kingdom off the fear from the dragon. On the fateful day the whole Kingdom was filled with posters announcing that the dragon would be having dinner with the Prince and He would be serving part of himself as the main course as a bargain for the dragon to leave the Kingdom. People in the Kingdom got petrified but they nevertheless hoped that the Prince would kill the dragon.

Next day in the morning, people of the Kingdom gathered to hear some news. After a few minutes, the Prince was on the balcony waving at them, his armour broken and sword full of blood. Prince came and raised his sword in the air as he had killed the Dragon.

Peace returned to the Kingdom and the Prince became a legendary hero and the Kingdom flourished with trade and people began thronging the place to see a glimpse of the armour, sword and the Prince who killed the Dragon.

The Prince was a real hero, in actuality, for he invited the dragon to have dinner and served part of him as the main course. Though absurd it proved effective for the Prince knew that the dragon can never be killed for it never existed in the first place.

This is what happens when we follow dogmas. Dogmas suggest that we are following a dragon, feeding a dragon, sleeping with a dragon but in reality there is no dragon in existence. What is considered as an auspicious ritual is equally inauspicious for it is absurd to follow the mind which never ever existed
